The Eastern part of the island of Crete is the prefect of Lassithi. Smaller than the other three provinces of Crete but equally picturesque and popular all year round holiday destination.

Major towns here are the administrative center of Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra and Sitia. Holiday resorts are famous Elounda, Agios Nikolaos, Sissi, Kalo Horio, Sitia, Ierapetra and Makry Gialos.

In the prefecture of Lassithi various small towns, touristy and busy costal resorts as well as picturesque mountainous villages can be found.

Beautiful beaches can be found as well on the coasts of the prefecture of Lassithi, such as the unique Vai Beach with its incredible palm forest, its azure waters and its golden sand.
